Yes, I found out the hard way when I first started and had it stuck to a table top and it left a mark. Fortunately, the table was already marked and in the process of being replaced but it could have been a bit of a disaster since it wasn't my own table. I have a plastic mat on my desk to protect the surface but also using a heavier, better paper helps too.
